MetGIS weather data for energy providers – focus on renewable energy sources

MetGIS weather data for energy providers: The future of energy – renewable and data-driven

Wind, sun and water are becoming increasingly important in electricity production. These sustainable sources are an important part of the energy transition and continue to drive it forward. The weather plays a key role in the predictability of power generation. MetGIS provides accurate weather data to efficiently manage production and predict fluctuations. Rely on our comprehensive set of weather parameters to create a sound basis for your energy production. This weather data is not only available for the future (forecast), but also as fine-meshed grids in hourly resolution for the past – ideal for training AI models.

SOLAR ENERGY AND PHOTOVOLTAICS

PRECISE FORECASTS FOR MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY

The accuracy of forecasting models is of great importance when generating electricity from solar energy. The volatility of solar radiation requires precise forecasts. In order to ensure grid stability, many countries already have a legal obligation to report the amount of electricity fed into the grid in advance. Accurate weather forecasts are also increasingly an issue, especially in the context of energy communities. MetGIS offers solid data to optimize planning and increase the efficiency of your solar systems. Important meteorological parameters offered are air temperature, cloud cover, wind strength and various radiation parameters (especially global radiation).

WATER POWER

USE THE FLOW OF THE WEATHER FOR YOUR PRODUCTION

With MetGIS weather data, you can use the forces of nature to your advantage, strategically plan hydropower production and minimize risks to your facilities in the event of extreme weather conditions. Hydropower depends heavily on weather conditions. By linking high-resolution weather models with terrain models, MetGIS offers you particular advantages here. In addition to a precise precipitation forecast, we specialize in calculating information on fresh snow, temperature and snow line in great detail. This makes it possible to distinguish between rain- and snowfall over catchments and therefore accurately predict the amount of precipitation relevant for runoff.

This information is important in the event of floods, but also for longer-term runoff trends. A snowy winter, for example, heralds an abundance of water for the melting period – a critical parameter for energy production. We also offer real-time satellite-based information on the extent of snow cover as part of our portfolio. Our data is often used as input for hydrological models (e.g. runoff models). These are provided partly by our customers themselves and partly by our partner companies.

WIND ENERGY

HARNESS THE POWER OF THE WIND AND BENEFIT FROM METGIS

Accurate wind information (both forecasts and historical data) is essential for the planning and operation of wind farms. Since wind has different characteristics at different heights, you need specialized weather data to make the best use of your wind turbines. MetGIS provides you with stable and accurate wind data for efficient utilization of wind as a natural resource. We are able to do this because we operate closely meshed atmospheric models that incorporate high-resolution terrain data. We provide wind information for various sea levels, with parameters such as mean wind speed, wind direction and gustiness.

MetGIS weather products to support energy producers:

METGIS POINT API

PRECISE WEATHER INFORMATION

The MetGIS Point API is a reliable and powerful solution for querying point-based weather data.  Via the API we offer a variety of weather parameters, which are available in different output formats.

The API can be integrated quickly and easily so that you can use it for your application.

  • For websites, apps and business applications
  • Ultra-precise weather data with a resolution of up to 30 meter
  • Available worldwide, even for remote regions

METGIS MAPS API

HIGH-RESOLUTION WEATHER LAYERS

Our Maps API makes it easy to integrate weather data into external information systems and platforms that are based on the Tile Map Service (TMS) standard.
The weather information can thus be placed as a “color layer” over background maps such as Google Maps or OpenStreetMap.

  • Impressive visualization – unique worldwide
  • Resolution up to 30 meters for highest zoom levels
  • Integration into existing maps (PNG/PBF files, TMS)
  • Numerical weather values (UTFGrid) available

METGIS HIST API

HISTORICAL WEATHER DATA WITH THE HIGHEST PRECISION

MetGIS has an extensive set of historical weather data.
To generate the data, we went beyond the usual standard.
Our approach not only includes global weather reanalysis models, but also integrates information from regional simulation models and measurement series from certified weather stations.

  • Fast download via link or simple API integration
  • Historical weather data accurate to within a few hundred meters
  • One-off or regular query
  • Perfect for AI applications

METGIS LONG RANGE FORECAST API

WEATHER FORECASTS FOR THE FUTURE

The MetGIS Long Range Forecast API relies on ensemble modeling.
For this purpose, different forecasts (“ensemble members”) are used to compare them with each other.
The more ensemble members predict a certain weather situation, the higher the probability of occurrence.
This makes it possible for MetGIS to recognize trends and forecast probabilities and make them available to you.

  • Long-term weather forecasts for the next 7 months in different time resolutions (month or day)
  • More flexibility through long-term planning options
  • Temperature, precipitation and global radiation

WEATHER DASHBOARD (METGIS PRO+)

High-resolution and interactive

MetGIS Pro+ is your turnkey solution for weather data – simple, efficient and effective.
This interactive, advanced dashboard bundles high-resolution weather and snow information into one easy-to-use application.
All information is presented graphically, allowing you to leverage MetGIS’ extensive expertise and experience in an intuitive GUI interface.

  • Zoomable interactive forecast maps in extremely high resolution (up to 30 meters)
  • 24/7 online access via your web browser
  • 3-day forecast in the form of weather maps
  • 10-day forecast (forecast tables) for any points in the weather maps
  • Temperature, precipitation, fresh snow, wind, cloud cover, sunshine duration, snow conditions, and much more.
